Marko Arnautovic's agent breaks silence on Manchester United transfer interest

Marko Arnautovic's agent and brother Danijel Arnautovic has all but confirmed that Manchester United are interested in signing the Bologna striker ahead of the transfer window closing next month.

The former Stoke City striker has emerged as a shock target for United as they look to beef up their attacking options in the remaining weeks of the window. The Manchester Evening News understands United have tabled an €8million bid for the Austrian and view him as a short-term option that would provide some competition up front.

Arnautovic, who turned 33 earlier this year, is currently on the books of Italian outfit Bologna, joining them from Chinese club Shanghai Port exactly a year ago. In his first season in Italy, the striker scored 15 goals and grabbed one assist in 34 appearances in all competitions.

The prospect of Arnautovic joining United has been slammed by many fans, with a move for him being considered as one that lacks ambition. Despite the criticism, the striker's agent and brother has confirmed that a "well-known" club are interested in making a deal happen and that he is in talks with Bologna to see if it can come to fruition.

"It is true that there is an offer from a well-known club," Danijel Arnautovic told Austrian newspaper Kurier, although he did not name United. "I'm in contact with Bologna to see if that can be realised."

Arnautovic — who also played for West Ham during his time in the Premier League — is no stranger to United manager Erik ten Hag. He worked with the Dutchman during the latter's time as assistant manager to Steve McClaren at FC Twente.

It is widely reported that the Austrian still has a close relationship with both Ten Hag and McClaren, suggesting that the United boss has had a firm say in the club's interest in the striker. Arnautovic scored 14 goals in 59 games for the Dutch outfit.
