Marcus Kane pays personal tribute to late Glentoran fans

Glentoran captain Marcus Kane has paid tribute to Brian Waters and Bailie Hardy following the 5-1 win over Portadown.

A minute's silence was observed before the game at The Oval for the two Glens fans who sadly passed away in recent weeks.

16-year-old Bailie lost his battle with illness a fortnight ago while the club announced last Friday Brian had also passed away.

While best known as Ruth McCreery’s sidekick in the Glentoran Superstore over many years, in 1996 Brian was a founder member of the Internet Glentoran Supporters Club, the club behind both the launch of the Superstore as we know it, and of the official club website.

Speaking after Saturday's win Kane paid a personal tribute to both fans on the club's YouTube channel.

"I was privileged to meet Bailie along with Joe Crowe, what a delightful young man," he said.

"Brian as well, he was a legend around the club and he'll always be a legend to me."

Jay Donnelly hit a hat-trick with Danny Purkis bagging the other two in the 5-1 thumping of basement side Portadown.

The result leaves Glentoran two points off Cliftonville in third with fixtures against Larne and Linfield next up.

"Yeah confidence is good, but it's one game at a time," said Kane.

"They are all big games coming up so it doesn't really matter what order they come in.

"It's first and second up in the next two games so we'll see where we are after that."
