Manny Fernandez in Rangers mindset admission and addresses future

Rangers' player Manny Fernandez has spoken out about the crushing end to the season.

The team, led by Danny Rohl, was in the running for the Premiership title with five games left.

However, a draw with Motherwell and games against Hearts and Celtic saw their dreams vanish, ending in third place as Celtic took the title.

Fernandez has been reflecting on what went wrong.

He said the mindset may have been off, with the team possibly thinking they didn't have a chance.

Fernandez said: "I think I said this before.

"Obviously, it's hard to pinpoint one thing which went wrong.

"I felt like we may not have gone into it with the right mindset, or we may have gone into it maybe thinking we didn't have a chance.

"Obviously, there are moments that we've got to take responsibility."

He also spoke about the need for individual accountability within the team, saying: "I feel like individually we've all got to look at ourselves and know what we need to do better so this doesn't happen again and we bring joy to the team."

Fernandez also recalled Mikey Moore's comments about the need for a winning mentality.

He said: "I remember during that time what was said.

"I feel like it's hard to pinpoint a certain person or a certain group of people but I feel like collectively as a team that's where we need to be better."

The Rangers player believes that the only way to succeed is to have the belief that they are the best and to show that on the pitch.

The mindset factor has been a key talking point for Rangers over the summer.

Chairman Andrew Cavenagh is leading the change from the top down, while Jim Gillespie, the chief executive officer, is addressing the culture across the club on a daily basis.

Fernandez has also been working on improving his skills and aligning with the manager's vision for the team.

He said: "[The manager has] showed me things that I need to improve on.

"He told me a few things that I understand and what I need to improve on and also how I can support the team going forward and being better."

Fernandez is keen to focus on the future and his role in the team.

He said: "I just focus on what's going on here.

"I've got four years left here and I want to enjoy it.

"And I want to win."

However, he recognises that there is still room for improvement in his game and that he is not yet the finished product.

He said: "I do feel like there's still more improvement to be made.

"I feel like right now I'm not the finished product yet.

"And I feel like there's still more of the story to go on."
