Jurgen Klopp: "I have no words for it, really"
“Conceding early goals is not unfamiliar to us but the way we conceded them today was not acceptable,” he tells the BBC. “When you see the whole game, throughout the game in moments we played an outstanding game without scoring and a good away game without scoring.
“The third goal I don’t count because it was the first time they passed the halfway line in the second half. The other two goals, going into a game with all the things we said during the week and before the game then this is the start is horrible.
“You do yourself no favours in these moments, giving easy balls away. We were passive in the two goals, everything we wanted to do was be compact and active but we were compact and passive. I can’t explain it, I think why would you do that? But they did it anyway.
“The leadership is missing but this is not my first explanation, I really think in the specific situation we could have and should have done better. We have to do better in these moments by not coming to this situation in the game, so not chasing the game. We didn’t finish things off properly, we missed the last pass, the intensity we played at times was good but we have put ourselves in a really average position for the two goals.
“We better change it. That’s true, 100 percent. I have no words for it really, I’m sorry.”
Alisson: “Sometimes in football you make mistakes and you get punished,” says the Liverpool goalkeeper before opening his soul in an interview with the BBC. “We did that again and again. Two mistakes, two goals at the beginning of the game. We are making things hard for ourselves.
“After that we did a great second half. We could have done better on the third goal but it is a good moment from the opponent. I don’t know what we need to happen to us to wake up. We come here, say we have to believe in ourselves but we don’t act like that on the pitch or deserve that. Again, we have to put this behind us and take strength from ourselves and families to bounce back.
“I think everyone believes they are capable of doing these things it is that you have to fight for that. A game of 90 plus minutes you have to do it consistently for the whole game. We showed today you can get punished for 15 minutes and that’s what happened to us. We have the same players who achieved so many great things at this club and we are not performing well. It’s difficult to say why.”

Green Football Weekend: Various clubs, players and fans throughout the Premier League, WSL and EFL are raising awareness of and helping to tackle climate change by reducing their environmental impacts this weekend. With that in mind, here’s an email from Chris Redston from Rainsforest Trust UK.

Well on course to secure the two automatic promotion places, Championship frontrunners Burnley and Sheffield United both get early opportunities to increase the gap between themselves and the chasing posse this afternoon.
Top of the table and already 17 points clear of third-placed Middlesbrough, Burnley travelled to Carrow Road to take on Norwich City in one of two lunchtime kick-offs. They lead by the only goal of the game at half-time, thanks to Anass Zaroury’s strike on eight minutes.

With a record-breaking January transfer window now closed we return to what seems, for some fans at least, to be the far more mundane pursuit of watching footballers try to justify their price tags on the Premier League stage.
