Manchester United: Ruben Amorim drops latest hint over Marcus Rashford exile

Ruben Amorim has hinted that he will continue to leave Marcus Rashford out of his squads.

Amorim left Rashford and Alejandro Garnacho out of the Manchester United squad for Sunday’s 2-1 derby-day win over Manchester City, explaining it was a technical decision not based on injury or indiscipline.

The 27-year-old forward then conducted an interview in which he revealed his wish to leave his boyhood club and seek a “new challenge” away from Old Trafford.

Following this interview, Amorim again left Rashford out of his squad for Thursday night’s 4-3 Carabao Cup quarter-final defeat to Spurs at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Before the game, Amorim explained it was a “selection” decision, and that he had chosen “the players that I felt were ready to cope with the demands of playing a strong game.”

Asked after the defeat at Tottenham whether Rashford is available to face Bournemouth on Sunday in the Premier League if selected, Amorim replied: “Yes, of course.”

Then asked whether his continued omission relates to Rashford’s discipline, he said: “No, no. It’s the same thing. It will be the same thing.”

That suggested Amorim may continue to leave the two-time FA Cup winner out of his squad amid talk, fuelled by the player’s interview this week, that he could leave the club in the January transfer window.

Rashford has scored seven goals and registered three assists in 24 games in all competitions for the Red Devils so far this season.
