Manchester United injury round-up ahead of Brentford clash including Anthony Martial latest

Manchester United nearly have a clean bill of health as they look to bounce back against Brentford this Saturday following their opening day defeat to Brighton.

Erik ten Hag had a disappointing start to life as United manager as he saw his team lose 2-1 thanks to two first-half goals. Cristiano Ronaldo was only deemed fit enough to feature off the substitutes' bench, but the five-time Ballon d'Or winner was not able to salvage something from the match.

Christian Eriksen led the line for the Reds as he played in a false nine position that appeared to have been a tactical gamble gone wrong from Ten Hag. An injury picked up by Anthony Martial in pre-season stopped fans from seeing if he could carry on the goalscoring momentum he found in Thailand and Australia while on tour.

Here's where United stand on the injury front.

Anthony Martial

The Frenchman suffered a hamstring injury in training and was unavailable to face Brighton, with no return date being given just yet. Martial was in fine form during pre-season as he was trusted by Ten Hag to lead the line.

Scoring three goals in five games, the seemingly revitalised forward looked ready to replicate the form that he showed during the 2019/20 season where he scored 17 Premier League goals for the club.

Speaking on August 7, Ten Hag said: "It's difficult to say [how long]. With his injury, we have to wait until tomorrow for how we will progress, but we have one week [until the next game]."

Expected return date: Unknown

Facundo Pellistri

United youngster Facundo Pellistri came on as a 76th-minute substitute for Anthony Elanga during United's penultimate pre-season match against Atletico Madrid, but was forced off through injury just 15 minutes later. The player picked up an ankle sprain and missed the Reds' opening match against Brighton.

Pellistri remains a doubt ahead of Saturday’s clash with Brentford as he steps up his recovery. Some United fans believe this season could be a breakthrough campaign for the 20-year-old after impressing during pre-season.

Expected return date: Unknown

Brandon Williams

The United youngster spent last season on loan at Norwich City as he made 29 appearances across all competitions for the Canaries. Williams was left out of the pre-season tour due to a 'small issue' that prevented him from travelling to Thailand and Australia.

Williams has been deemed surplus to requirements at Old Trafford and it remains to be seen whether he'll represent the club again.

Expected return date: Unknown
