Manchester United handed double injury boost ahead of packed fixture schedule

Manchester United have welcomed Donny van de Beek and Facundo Pellistri back to training following their recent injury setbacks.

Erik ten Hag was pictured putting his players through their paces on Friday, just hours after they had arrived back in England following their Europa League win against FC Sheriff.

United fielded a full-strength side for their trip to Moldova given that their Premier League clash with Leeds has been postponed due to police numbers ahead of Monday’s state funeral for The Queen.

Ten Hag might have been tempted to give his players some extra downtime ahead of the international break, but instead, he ensured they were given one last gruelling session before reconvening ahead of facing Manchester City at the start of next month.

United face a packed October schedule with nine matches in all, meaning they will be playing twice a week with a break of either three or four days in between each match. It means Ten Hag will need to showcase his incredible squad depth and he has been handed a boost by the return of duo Van de Beek and Pellistri.

The Dutch midfielder has been missing from United's last three matchday squads and prior to that was only an unused substitute for wins over Southampton and Leicester.

Van de Beek, 25, featured from the bench in the opening three games of the campaign, with his last appearance coming in the dying moments of the 2-1 win over Liverpool.

Pellistri has not featured for United at all this season since twisting his ankle in the penultimate summer friendly against Atletico Madrid, an injury that scuppered a late loan exit in the window.

The 20-year-old has been named in the Uruguay squad for the upcoming international break and is likely to be named in their World Cup squad later in the year.
