Manchester United give team news and injury update vs Real Sociedad

Anthony Martial is still unavailable for Manchester United in their opening Europa League tie against Real Sociedad.

Martial has been sidelined for the last two weeks with an Achilles injury and has only played 45 minutes this season as he missed the start due to a hamstring strain.

"Yes he's still out, he's progressing but he's not ready to get back into team training," United manager Erik ten Hag said.

Harry Maguire, Luke Shaw, Casemiro, Fred and Cristiano Ronaldo are among the senior players pushing for a recall in United's first group game at Old Trafford.

Casemiro has come on in the last three games against Southampton, Leicester and Arsenal but is yet to make his full debut since arriving from Real Madrid for £70million.

Victor Lindelof was named on the bench for the first time this season against Arsenal after recovering from an early season injury and could play at centre-back or right-back.

Reserve right-back Aaron Wan-Bissaka has been absent from the last two matchday squads and has not lined up for United since April.

United are certain to stray close to six years without silverware and their last triumph was the Europa League in 2017.

"We have to win every game, we want to win every tournament, so we take everything seriously," Ten Hag added. "We not only have a team, we have a squad, that is clear, but we have to win every game. That is the mentality Manchester United needs."
