Man Utd boss Erik ten Hag shares Brian Clough memories and makes 'great' Nottingham Forest claim

Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag says it is "great" to see Nottingham Forest back in the Premier League, with the Dutchman sharing his memories of the club’s famous European Cup wins.

Forest made it back to the top division for the first time in more than two decades at the end of last season when they overcame Huddersfield Town in the Championship play-off final. Their reward is trips to grounds such as Old Trafford, which is where Steve Cooper ’s side will be playing tonight (Tuesday).

The trip comes as both sides return to Premier League action after a six week break for the World Cup in Qatar. Ahead of the match against Forest, Ten Hag has reminisced about Forest’s previous success when they were led by the legendary Brian Clough.

“I think it’s great (Forest are back in the Premier League),” he said in his matchday Q&A. “I think it was 1979 and ’80 (when they won the European Cup), a great team.

“The man is mental, Brian Clough. I remember the song (We’ve Got the Whole Word in Our Hands). Everyone remembers the song that they had in that time.

“So, it’s great that such big traditional clubs are back in the Premier League. Because it is a traditional club, I like such club. What is really a club from the crowd, the audience, the atmosphere in the stadium must be great.

“One time I had the pleasure to play there, so I have already had the experience there. So, it’s good for the Premier League that they are back.''

Forest will go into the game against the Red Devils full of confidence. Steve Cooper’s side are currently unbeaten in four games in all competitions and have won their last three, including games against Tottenham and Blackburn in the Carabao Cup.

Man United also made it through to the quarter final stage of the competition last week. They also overcame Championship opposition in Burnley.
