Man suspected of people smuggling believed to be part of organised crime group

A people smuggling suspect has been arrested as part of a huge international policing operation.

Ibrahim Ako Abdulla, 48, an Iraqi national, was detained by National Crime Agency officers on Wednesday, May 10. The organisation has been working with Italian police to try and break apart a major international operation of people smuggling through Italy.

The investigation, which is led by the Italian Polizia di Stato and supported by the NCA and Europol, has so-far seen 29 people arrested in a series of raids in Italy, Greece, Germany, Turkey and Morocco.
