Man stabbed girlfriend's dead body after attacking her in her home

A man stabbed his "funny" and "kind" partner's dead body after attacking her in her home.

Robert Massey appeared at Liverpool Crown Court today, Monday, October 10 where he pleaded guilty to the murder of his partner and trying to kill two men. Massey, 43, of Piele Road, Haydock, pleaded guilty to murdering Jacqueline Forrest on August 30 this year.

Merseyside Police was called to Piele Road on the morning of Wednesday, August 31 following concerns for the safety of a woman. The body of 49-year-old Ms Forrest, known as Jaki to her friends, was found in the house.

Massey's barrister Dan Travers told the court today the case involved suffocation and blunt trauma. Mr Travers said the knife wounds found on her body were caused after death. He added: "He does not believe he had the intention to kill."

Massey, who appeared in the dock for the first time after previously appearing from prison via video link, also pleaded guilty to attempting to murder Anthony Paul Murphy and Graham Roberts on August 31 and possessing a bladed article, a pair of scissors, on the same date on Charnock Road, Liverpool.

A provisional date for a trial had been listed for next February but that has now been scrapped and Massey has been further remanded into custody to await his sentence on November 10. Judge Brian Cummings, KC, said he could not be sentenced today as both the prosecution and defence had further preparation to do.

He told the defendant his guilty pleas will "entitle you to some sort of reduction by way of credit, the level to be determined on the next occasion".

Tributes to Jaki described her as a "funny" and "kind" person, who shared many "laughs" with friends.

Posting to the ECHO Facebook page, Susan Hunter said: "RIP Jaki. Shine bright like a diamond." Another, Tracy Stanley added: "RIP Jaki x thinking of her family and loved ones x."

In a tribute online, Sally Sheil said: "RIP Jaki Forrest. Shocked, devastated and heartbroken to hear tonight you’ve been taken from us. Thoughts to your lovely family. So many laughs and memories with you over the years. Raising a glass or two tonight to you. Sleep tight."

Mark Hilton replied: "She was such a character , always had a laugh when Jaks was around, a very very sad day x RIP lovely lady." While Craig Sheil said: "One of the kindest funniest people RIP."
