A Bristol man has claimed possession of the 'UFO' spotted flying over Filton yesterday evening (July 10). At the time, Bristol Live reported that the 'UFO', which was silver in colour and could be clearly seen against the backdrop of a clear blue summer sky, had prompted people below to stop in the street and take photos.
The article acknowledged that despite the confusion it looked pretty similar to a helium balloon shaped as a number or letter - and it turns out our theory was right. This morning, a resident from St George (or 'alien' as he has jokingly dubbed himself), has taken responsibility and said it was one of his birthday balloons, which had escaped from his garden celebrations.
Tim Bell, who turned 50 on Friday (July 8), lost both of his helium-filled decorations during his garden party at around 4pm. The balloon, which was in the shape of a number five, had been part of a set of two (the other being a '0' to make up '50'), given to Tim by his cousin.
