Man put his hand up teen girl’s skirt

A LIVERPOOL man was convicted of molesting a woman on a dance floor.

John Grimes denied the offence but was convicted after a trial at Liverpool Crown Court.

During his trial the jury heard that the 19-year-old victim was in the Don Juan bar in Slater Street in the early hours of May 21 when the incident happened.

While dancing with her sister she saw Grimes, 22, staring at her and felt uncomfortable.

The 19-year-old then felt a hand go up her skirt. She turned round and saw Grimes standing by her.

She told her sister what had happened and the door staff were alerted.

Grimes, of Townsend Lane, Anfield, was convicted of sexual touching.

He was further remanded on bail to await sentence on August 3.

At that hearing, Judge Gerald Clifton jailed him for six months and ordered him to sign on the Sex Offenders Register for seven years.

Michael Scholes, defending, said that Grimes had no previous convictions. although he had two cautions for possessing cannabis and being drunk and disorderly.

Many testimonials were submitted on his behalf and he was described as polite, honest and trustworthy.

"Everyone who knows him finds it extremely surprising that he finds himself in court, " said Mr Scholes.

"It was extraordinarily foolish and sexually inappropriate behaviour."
