Convicted murderer Michael Stone hopes that a fresh confession from killer Levi Bellfield over the deaths of Lin and Megan Russell will ultimately see him freed. Bellfield, who killed 13-year-old Milly Dowler in 2002, has already confessed once to the Russell murders before retracting his statement.
Bellfield's new confession is the first time he has signed a written statement on the subject, and 62-year-old Stone believes it contains information about the 1996 hammer attack which only the killer would know.
The bombshell revelations are now with the Criminal Cases Review Commission (CCRC), which has been investigating Stone’s conviction since 2017. Bellfield last year claimed responsibility for the murders but later denied responsibility, the Mirror writes.
