Man in critical condition after workplace incident at Mayfield

A MAN is in a critical condition in hospital after he suffered multiple serious injuries in a workplace incident at Mayfield on Friday afternoon.

A Hunter New England Health spokesperson confirmed the man, who is in his 50s, remained at John Hunter Hospital in a critical condition on Saturday.

Emergency services were called to a business on Kerr Street at about 3.30pm on August 30 after reports a man had been injured by heavy machinery.

A NSW Ambulance spokesperson said the man was treated at the scene for multiple serious injuries.

He was taken to John Hunter Hospital in Newcastle for treatment within about an hour of the incident.

At least three ambulance crews, including specialist intensive care paramedics and a doctor, were tasked to the scene as the emergency unfolded on Friday.

Multiple police officers also rushed to the scene under lights and siren, including the specialist Police Rescue unit, to assist the response.

Details surrounding the circumstances of the incident could not be confirmed on Friday afternoon, though initial police reports indicated there had been a forklift accident.
