A man has divided opinion after an annoying run-in with a particularly loud couple on a train from Dublin to Cork.
He explained that he had booked the quiet coach because he had work to do while on the journey down south, but said two passengers refused to abide by the carriage rules and went as far as to call some Irish people ‘thick.’
In his post on Reddit, he wrote: “On the 7:00 am Dublin to Cork train and booked the quiet coach because I have a job interview down in Munster. Doing a few bits on the train to prepare for it.

“This is not a full train by any standards and a group of students are in the quiet coach playing cards and laughing away and there's a couple talking pure brown beside me. What's wrong with the Irish general public honestly?”
He went on to tell another story, demonstrating the flawed behaviour of Irish people and said: “Similar situation earlier in the year. I remember being in JFK airport, getting a late flight home to Dublin.
“Loads of middle-aged folks with dead eyes are queuing around the gate, crowding it and your man at the gate is saying the most efficient way to board the flight is by row by row and asks everyone to sit in the gate seating area.
“Not to mention it makes no fecking difference if you board the flight first or last, we all leave at the same time. He politely asked the crowd 10+ times to not crowd the gate as he wants to board the flight efficiently and he eventually loses patience with everyone and starts screaming.
“Honestly, I remember looking at that crowd of middle-aged, pr**ks and they're looking at this fella asking them nicely like cattle. The gate guy may aswell been speaking mandarin”.
Before concluding his post, he made clear: “Honestly, I love Ireland so much and we've great qualities but there's this intransigent thickness and total lack of self-awareness that spoils it.
“I've a job offer in Oxford, UK and I'm considering taking it all things considered. Obviously not just on the basis of these two factors”.
Hundreds of people rushed to have their say on the situation, but it seems people were left divided.
On the one hand, one person wrote: “Never heard it summed up so well. You meet far more people who are unintentionally being a pain than you do deliberate pricks”.
Another said: “I see it in my parents in Cork. They have a “it’s only us” mentality - like they’ll park somewhere they shouldn’t because “it’s just for a minute, I’ll put the blinkers on to let people know”.
However, some questioned if there actually is a ‘quiet cart’ and if it is enforced - claiming that if it wasn't clear then it was not their fault for being loud.
One wrote: “I didn’t even know a quiet section existed, so could see myself doing this by accident”.
Another said: “Maybe people aren't even aware there's a quiet coach? Seems possible”.
