A man who dragged a girl into isolated bushland said he was two million years old, watched Jesus die on the cross and was going to make her a virgin sacrifice.
Then he choked the nine-year-old with a sock and left her to die.
But first he raped her.
The 49-year-old, who cannot be named for legal reasons, had consumed cask wine, cocaine and ice before pulling the girl into bushes and tying her arms and legs in December 2016.
The girl described being raped "heaps of times" and couldn't remember how long it went on for, according to a Queensland appeal court judgment published on Friday.
The man told her he was two million years old, had watched Jesus die on the cross, that she was a virgin and he was going to sacrifice her.
The man choked the girl with a sock around her neck until she lost consciousness.
Six hours later the girl knocked on a friend's door with the sock tied tightly around her throat restricting her breathing, her face bruised and numerous other injuries.
The man fled to his cousin's house after threatening to cut a taxi driver's throat.
He told his relative of murdering someone who had done a "dog trick" on him and the need to bury the body.
While driving to another house the man threatened his cousin with a large knife when they passed a police vehicle, saying "f***ing keep going, don't stop".
The man was sentenced to life imprisonment after pleading guilty, but took his case to the Court of Appeal, saying the jail term was manifestly excessive.
Defence lawyers argued the man's guilty plea showed some remorse and he had no history of committing sexual offences.
But he has an extensive criminal history, having appeared in Queensland courts 39 times for 80 offences including violent crimes since he was 16.
The trial judge accepted the Crown's argument for the man to receive the maximum prescribed penalty of life imprisonment.
"The offending against this child was the result of your voluntary intoxication, predatory behaviour and a sense of entitlement that you could do to this child what you pleased," trial judge Justice Peter Applegarth told the man during sentencing.
The life sentence means the man has to serve at least 15 years before being eligible for parole, but if paroled would be under supervision for the rest of his life.
The man was refused leave to appeal the sentences by the Court of Appeal on Friday.
