Man arrested after buying AK-47 to carry out ISIS-inspired attack

  • Federal agents thwarted a planned terror attack on the Mall of America by arresting an 18-year-old U.S. citizen on Tuesday.
  • Sheikhdoon Abdullahi Mohamud was taken into custody in Richfield after paying an undercover FBI employee $600 for an AK-47 rifle and ammunition.
  • Authorities revealed Mohamud intended to kill 30 to 60 non-Muslims during an October 24 cultural event at the shopping complex.
  • The suspect chose the mall target after concluding he lacked the funds to travel to Somalia to join ISIS .
  • The FBI had monitored Mohamud since December 2024 and previously attempted to warn his family about his radicalization.
