Man, 22, arrested after 'violent' assault left another man with serious injuries

Police have arrested a man after a 'violent' assault which left another man with serious injuries.

The victim - a man in his 20s - was attacked by two people in Bolton Street in Bury town centre at about 3am on Thursday (April 14). He was taken to hospital where he received treatment for his injuries.

A man in his 20s was arrested in connection with the incident, before being released under investigation. Police later shared an image of a man they wanted to speak to in connection with the attack.

In a public appeal for information, Detective Constable Alex Fagelman, of Bury CID, said: "This was a violent attack that we are sure must have been witnessed - any members of the public who have information about the incident should ring police on 0161 856 8185 or 101 and quote log 260-14/04/2022."

Officers have confirmed that they have since arrested a 22-year-old man on suspicion of section 18 assault. After being questioned by detectives, he has been released under investigation.

GMP Bury South tweeted: "We've arrested a 22y-o suspect thanks to you sharing images of a man we wanted to speak to after a serious assault in the town centre in the early hours of Thursday.

" The suspect's been questioned & released under investigation as we continue to progress our enquiries."
