Major works to key Crosby junction set to be decided

Plans to make key roads in Crosby safer by removing two roundabouts look set for approval.

The plans which would see changes to the roads at Church Road, Liverpool Road and Coronation Road as well as upgrades to crossing facilities are part of a wider project by Sefton Council centring around the library in Crosby.

Work could begin in September with the works being funded by the combined authority. The highways works were detailed in a report produced ahead of a Sefton Council licensing meeting due to be held next week.

Requesting approval for a temporary traffic order, the report states this would involve introducing a signal controlled junction after replacing the existing double mini roundabout at the junction of Islington, Church Road and Coronation Road – as well as modifications to the junction of the bypass/ Liverpool Road (A565) with improved crossing facilities.

A consultation was carried out into the plans during a wider consultation into the council’s investment strategy for Crosby.

This includes plans for a new £14m Crosby Library and health hub were recently approved by Sefton Council in a scheme which cabinet member Cllr Trish Hardy said would “provide a boost to the village by increasing footfall and resulting economic activity.”

The highways works are aimed at improving access to the village centre as well as improving wider pedestrian and vehicle safety, according to the report.

Members of the borough’s licensing committee will meet to discuss and decide whether to approve the temporary traffic order on Monday, June 1 from 6.30pm at Bootle Town Hall.
