Major update on Stretford town centre regeneration plans

Residents in Stretford are being invited to an 'update event' over the latest plans for the regeneration of its town centre. Trafford council is looking to make the Kingsway and Barton Road junction safer and greener as part of its transformation of Stretford.

Plans include new crossing points, cycle lanes, footpaths, trees and green spaces. The Kingsway carriageway will be re-designed also to reduce speeds and improve it for cyclists and pedestrians.

The drop-in event is from 10am to 2pm at The Square, Stretford Mall, on February 25. Coun Liz Patel, Trafford council’s executive member for economy and regeneration, said: “Stretford town centre is being transformed into a great place for residents, shoppers and businesses.

"These new designs will make the experience safer and more enjoyable for pedestrians and cyclists, and complement the redevelopment of Stretford Mall. This is an exciting time for Stretford.” The regeneration of Stretford, using money from the successful Future High Streets Fund bid, is an ongoing project.

Last month, the council and commercial property company Bruntwood were given the green light to commence the ambitious transformation of Stretford’s King Street - the first phase of the wider Stretford Masterplan.
