Officers have cordoned off an area of Oldham after a teenage girl was reportedly sexually assaulted in the early hours of the morning. Greater Manchester Police says it was called out to reports of a serious sexual assault on High Street, in Shaw, at around 12.45am today (August 19).
The girl, aged 17, is currently being supported by specialist officers following the incident. No description of the suspect has been provided so far and no arrests have been made.
GMP says enquiries are ongoing. Anyone with information about the incident is being urged to come forward as soon as possible.
A spokesperson for GMP said: “At around 12:45am this morning (Friday, August 19 2022), officers received reports of a serious sexual assault of a 17-year-old girl on High Street, Shaw. The girl is being supported by specialists and enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances."
A cordon has been in place at parts of High Street and Westway, outside the Shaw Lifelong Learning Centre, since earlier this morning. Eyewitnesses reported seeing a large police presence in the area at around 7am, with several police cars.
Officers have continued to monitor the area while enquiries continue. Anyone with any information, photos, videos, or CCTV footage regarding this incident is urged to contact GMP on 0161 856 8999 or 101, quoting incident 118 of August 19, 2022.
