Major Albion Rrahmani Rangers transfer update as club chief confirms offer received

Rapid Bucharest have received a transfer offer for star striker Albion Rrahmani - but it is set to be thrown out.

Rangers have been heavily linked with a transfer swoop for the 23-year-old but it's unclear whether the offer submitted to Rapid is from Ibrox chiefs.

Rapid Bucharest president Viorel Moldovan has revealed an offer which is "not at his level and value" has been tabled for Rrahmani.

But he insisted he is still hopeful for the player to remain in Romania with the club instead of sealing a transfer exit this summer.

The club president told Prima Sport: "There is, at the moment, an offer for Rrahmani, which, from our point of view, is not at his level and value.

"I can't say from whose side, however we want Rrahmani to continue with us.

"Moreover, he is under contract with the club, he is a very important player for us and we hope that he will help us to achieve our goals.

"It is not easy to manage such a moment, things can be tempting when you hear that you have offers, maybe for the better, but he is a balanced boy. I think we will still have him."

It comes after former Celtic manager Neil Lennon - now in charge at Rapid Bucharest - insisted he wants to keep hold of Rrahmani despite interest from Rangers.

He commented: "I don't want him to leave anywhere. He a it a top player and goalscorers are a valuable commodity to the team.

"They are very important players and he has had a fantastic season. That is a discussion that we hope will take place but I can't control that at the minute."

Romanian agent Cristian Cernodolea previously claimed Rrahmani will leave Rapid this summer with the club set to seek £6m for his services.

He said: “If I had to estimate, I would say that at this point I’m almost convinced Rapid has between €5 and €6 million (around £4.5million) on the table for Rrahmani. And I don’t think they will sell him for that amount. The club is aiming for somewhere around €7 to €8 million (around £6million).”
