Meet Alfie - a dog who has spent three years in kennels waiting for somebody to notice him.
The five-year-old has been described as a “true rescue dog” after being rescued by the RSPCA in May 2018.
It is thought Alfie, a lurcher crossbreed, had a tough start to life - but is seeking a “fresh start with a kind, caring and committed adult family”.
An RSPCA statement reads: “I don’t understand why nobody wants me? I have been waiting for someone to offer me a home for three years.
“I have seen all my friends find new homes and still here I wait, hoping next time it might be me, but it never is.
“Is there no one out there who wants me? I deserve a home after everything I have been through. I am a true rescue dog”.
Alfie loves playing with toys, going for walks and having a “good back scratch”. He walks well on a lead but has not been well-socialised with other dogs and will need help in this area.
The RSPCA statement adds: “Alfie has not had a normal life, so his new owners need to be prepared to offer him some professional 'one-to-one' training to help improve his socialisation skills around other dogs and settle into a new home and routine. Ideally his new owners should be experienced dog owners.
"He needs a home with a good sized, private, secure garden with 6ft fencing where he can be allowed to have free time off the lead. He is not suitable to live with cats, dogs or small furries.”
The animal charity would love to match Alfie with a loving family who can devote their time to spoiling him and showing him the world can be a happy place.
If you’re interested in rehoming Alfie, or would like to request more information about him, please contact Southrige Animal Centre on 0300 123 0704 or email mapsouthridge@rscpa.org.uk .
The RSPCA statement reads: “Please before beginning the application process for an animal from Southridge, double check that the home you can offer meets Alfie`s needs.
“We would very much like to be able to respond to every adoption application we receive, however at the moment this is just not possible for us to do.
“Therefore, unless your application matches the required criteria we will not be able to email you back, similarly if we receive your application after the animal you are interested in has been reserved.
“Thank you very much for considering adopting one of our animals. We really appreciate your kindness and support.”
