Luke Williams 'interested' in Jodi Jones transfer following Oxford United update

Notts County boss Luke Williams has that he is interested in turning Jodi Jones' loan move at Meadow Lane into a permanent one following Oxford United's release of their retained list earlier this afternoon.

The Magpies loanee has been instrumental since signing for the club at the end of January, making 15 appearances and scoring once - coming in the 120th minute of their dramatic play-off semi-final win over Boreham Wood last Sunday.

But after the club released a statement on their website, Jones along with fellow first-team players Matty Taylor and Djavan Anderson, would not be offered new deals when their current contracts run out in June.

The 25-year-old has become a firm fans favourite during his four-month stint at Meadow Lane, with many hopeful that the Malta international will put pen to paper for a deal next season.

But with this weekend's National League play-off final against Chesterfield growing ever closer, the Notts head coach insisted that full focus is on preparations for their trip to Wembley - explaining his admiration for Jones and what he has contributed this campaign.

"Of course we are interested, but we have to focus completely on the game this weekend and not be side-tracked by anything at all.

"It goes without saying that we like Jodi a lot, he is a super player and we think he is a really good guy - we feel like he fits in brilliantly with what we are trying to do.

"But we have to focus on the game and then I am sure there will be conversations after that."
