LUCKNOW: A resident of New Kalyanpuri area under Thakurganj police limits was run over by a speeding train at manned level crossing in Balamau of Sandila area, Hardoi district.
The victim identified as Pradeep Kanojiya (34) was returning home from his in-laws Malehara village on motorbike. CCTV footage of the horrific accident showed that the victim was allegedly in an inebriated state and was attempting to cross the railway track even though the gateman had blocked the road traffic of both ends with barricades.
In the footage, the victim was showing no sign of anxiety and was focused on starting his motorbike instead of getting away from the track. Pradeep was run over by the Jammu Tawi bound Himgiri express train on Sunday night at around 9 pm.
"The victim looked immensely calmed in the CCTV footage. Normally a person in his senses would immediately run away, but Pradeep did not even bother to step back from track. The impact of the speeding train was such that parts of his body were thrown several meters away and his two-wheeler was left to scrape. We are waiting for autopsy results to ascertain if he was really in an inebriated state or not," said Arun Kumar Yadav, the sub-inspector who is incharge of Balamau police outpost of GRP.
In Lucknow, Pradeep was running a laundry service. He was survived by two minor sons and a wife.
