An injection of stamping, torquing flamenco - and a bullfight - finesse Shakespeare’s wordy early comedy into something lusty and joyful here, in an open-air London bullring coincidentally baking in Iberian temperatures. Indiana Lown-Collins’s enthusiastically Spanish production is impressively sure-footed bar a couple of odd choices.
A winner of the coveted JMK award, she’s helmed fine work in smaller venues. Previously also an assistant, associate or co-director at the Globe, she clearly understands the quirks of this magnificent, demanding space. If this is a test of her ability to lead a tricky Shakespeare play and imbue it with verve and coherence, she’s passed.
