Love Island's Jacques 'isn't telling the truth about his feelings for Paige', claims expert

Jacques O'Neill and Paige Thorne were happily plodding along in the Love Island villa until Scottish hunk Jay Younger walked in.

After an aborted dalliance with Ekin-Su, Jay locked his radar on Paige, respectfully telling a decidedly unfazed Jacques that he'd like to get to know her.

Despite a few early tears from Paige - who felt that Jacques' calmness meant he didn't care - she soon rose to the challenge, getting hot and heavy with Jacques by day, and enjoying sexy pillow talk with Jay by night.

Not used to losing, by the second night, Jacques summoned Paige and her silky nighty for a midnight talk on the stairs where he got deep, spilling his heart about his emotions and apologising for not doing it sooner.

The next day a respectful Paige told Jay her head was not for turning.

But is Jacques being completely honest or did he have an ulterior motive?

According to body language expert Darren Stanton, he's giving off some major signs that things aren't quite as they seem.

Speaking to The Mirror on behalf of Slingo, Darren revealed: "There are many ways in which we can tell if people are attracted or connected to someone else. In psychology, we call this interpersonal attraction and this is visible through many non-verbal behaviours and gestures like prolonged eye contact, genuine smiles, close proximity - for example whether a person is happy to have the other in their personal space - and tactileness.

"Paige and Jacques appear to have a deep connection on the surface, but a closer look at their relationship could suggest otherwise.

"Often, their body language is not mirrored and there’s a subtle distance between them. Jacques doesn’t seem as head over heels for Paige as he makes out and a lot of his desire to be with her stems from bravado and a bruised ego.

"His emotions towards her do not appear to be genuine in terms of how he smiles and he tends to position his body leaning away from Paige during their more tactile or intimate moments.

"This suggests he speaks more from ego and self-protection than operating from a position of a person wanting to find true love. He is also concerned about how he is perceived by others - we saw his frustration build when Paige was showing interest in Jay and he told the other islanders he feels like an ‘idiot’ for telling her how he feels. He was toying with the idea of being ‘more distant’ from Paige and pulling back to save face.

"Paige, however, appears to be being cautious when it comes to Jacques. While there’s no denying she has feelings for him, you can see that she is worried about getting hurt and it’s holding her back from investing in him 100 percent."
