Loose Women's Ruth Langsford pens emotional Eamonn Holmes tribute after ITV criticism

Ruth Langsford has paid tribute to husband Eamonn Holmes, after he came under fire from ITV's manging director over his comments about This Morning amid Phillip Schofield's controversial departure from the daytime programme and the channel.

It's now been a month since Phillip firstly announced he was leaving This Morning after 21 years, before admitting to an affair with a much younger runner on the show, something he lied to his family, bosses and agents about. Prior to Phillip breaking the news that he was leaving his This Morning role, he and co-host Holly Willoughby were the subject of a 'feud' rumours, with their former co-star Eamonn accusing them of 'faking their friendship' for cameras and quipping that they should have won a special acting award at the TV BAFTAs.

When Phillip confessed to what he described as an 'unwise but not illegal' relationship with the This Morning employee, Eamonn said that both he and wife Ruth had been 'deceived' by the presenter, having very publicly supported him when he came out as gay in early 2020. AS he then gave an explosive interview to his GB News colleague Dan Wooton, Eamonn took to Twitter to post: "A lie unchallenged becomes the Truth... not on my watch it doesn't Pip . Tonight is for all my workmates over the years who were frightened and ignored by you and your controlling , coercive behaviour. All you who no one listened to . I'm here for you.."

ITV boss Carolyn McCall faced questions from MPs last week and, with her claiming that Phillip and the young man involved had 'repeatedly' denied any affair. Also present, Kevin Lygo, managing director of media and entertainment at ITV, made a thinly veiled dig at former This Morning stars who'd hit out at Phillip and the show, saying: "There has been a very vocal criticism and the mention of all this toxic culture, it's a few people who've got a platform now with a show elsewhere or a newspaper column, or just on Twitter to have a big go.

"These people worked as presenters on ITV for a very long time, some of them over 10 years. There was never any complaint from them whilst they were there. If they wanted anything, it was more work."

Ruth remains with ITV as a presenter on Loose Women and has so far kept her silence on the controversy surrounding This Morning. She took to Instagram on Sunday to share a photo of her together with her late father and penned a post that also acknowledged Eamonn.

Ruth wrote: "To everyone, like me, missing their Dads today I send you a big hug. And Happy Father’s Day to all the wonderful Dads out there, especially @eamonnholmes."
