The Briefing

  • Thursday's Pacific storm is pushing Long Beach harbor tides near 5 feet twice and generating scattered thunderstorms with rainfall rates up to 1 inch per hour across Southern California.
  • Eight structures covering 13 addresses on the Long Beach Peninsula are off-limits, with 9 homes under mandatory evacuation orders and 39 more under evacuation warnings.
  • King Tides will peak October 26–28 — an astronomically amplified tide cycle that Newport Beach has already declared a local emergency to confront.
