The ruptured tank at the MC Tank Terminal in north Toledo has stopped releasing glycidyl methacrylate, and hazardous materials crews were able to approach it for inspection Thursday, the City of Toledo said in an update posted at 8:25 p.m. EDT. Toledo Fire & Rescue cut the evacuation zone to a quarter-mile radius around 1266 Progress Ave. at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, leaving 64 households still displaced. No shelter-in-place order remains.
For thousands of nearby families, the question has shifted from whether the air is safe to what the chemical may have left behind on gardens, playgrounds, cars, and pet bowls.
