Livingston winger will get better offers than Dundee United, says Lions boss

Livingston boss David Martindale reckons Alan Forrest will get better offers than Dundee United despite the Arabs being linked with a move for the winger.

The 25-year-old has been a key player for the Lions during his two seasons in West Lothian and is out of contract in the summer. Despite that, Martindale believes there's a chance he stays at the Tony Macaroni Arena having already turned down a January move to St Johnstone.

He said: "No disrespect to Dundee United but I think he is going to have bigger clubs after him and I also think I’ve got a good chance of keeping Alan.

"Alan could have left for St Johnstone in the January window and earned a lot more money than he’s getting here but he came in and said he didn’t want to go.

"It wasn’t about the money so fair play. I think we’ve still got a good chance of keeping him but I do believe when Alan’s time comes he is going to have bigger opportunities elsewhere."

Livi host United tomorrow night knowing they will jump back into the top six with a win and Martindale admits it will be a difficult contest against a side with a much greater budget than the Lions.

He said: "It will be a tough, tough game. Tam (Courts, Dundee United manager) has done really well but he’s got a big budget and he should be doing well.

"Tony Watt, Kevin MacDonald, Charlie Mulgrew, they have kept a hold of Benji Siegrist, Marc McNulty - they are all players that command big money. They have a big budget but I think Thomas has done a good job."

He added: "Everyone else likes to play budgets down but when you’re the club with the smallest budget in the Premiership I want to play it up. It’s a talking point.

"I laugh sometimes when I see some of the comments when teams go away in Europe and are playing teams that are triple their budgets. When they get beat it’s, ‘what about the budgets, what about the budgets’. When it comes to Livingston, budgets don’t come into the equation."
