Jurgen Klopp has made his thoughts on Chelsea abundantly clear by admitting that he’s “happy” to see the Blues struggle this season after their huge transfer outlay under new owner Todd Boehly.
The West Londoners have endured a rotten campaign under the American after he took control from Roman Abramovich just over a year ago. Despite a huge investment of £600m in the transfer market over two windows - an outlay that has seen 17 new faces arrive at Stamford Bridge - Chelsea sit 12th with six games of the season left to play.
Their rotten form has seen four managers at the helm throughout the campaign with Thomas Tuchel, Graham Potter, Bruno Saltor and Frank Lampard all being given the reins at some point. Those changes have not inspired an upturn in fortunes.
Ahead of his side Liverpool taking on Spurs on Sunday, Klopp admitted that he did have sympathy for those at Stamford Bridge but expressed his satisfaction at not seeing their lucrative transfer policy work immediately.
Speaking to Sky Sports, the German said: “I feel a little bit for Chelsea to be honest, because it’s not going well, I think they’re a top, top team, but on the other side it's good to see that you cannot just bring top players together and think it works out. You have to build a team and that’s what the guys there underestimated and gave their coaches a nearly impossible job to do.
'You cannot have two dressing rooms, you cannot train on two pitches, you have to create relationships, you have to create team spirit, and that’s the only reason why I’m a little bit happy about it. Chelsea will be fine in the end and they will be incredibly strong next year, but I’m using them just as an example.”

Whilst Chelsea have struggled this season, the same could certainly be said of Klopp’s Liverpool. The Reds sit seventh and seven points adrift of the top four.
Ahead of next season, it was suggested that the Merseyside club could invest heavily in an attempt to get themselves back to their former glory. Klopp recognsises that his side certainly needs a refresh but has already confirmed that they will not approach anywhere near Chelsea’s level of spending.
He added: “At the highest level, no, we cannot do it like that [like Chelsea]. And that’s what we will not do.
“You have to bring in the right players and build a new team. This team wrote a sensational story and now we start a new one, that’s it.”
The Reds are expected to enter the market for a new midfielder but will not be paying huge amounts after already pulling out of the race for Borussia Dortmund and England star Jude Bellingham.
