Liverpool handed potential boost as 'contract talks stall' between 'midfield target' and his club

Liverpool have been handed a potential boost over a reported transfer target this summer.

The Reds continue to be linked with possible new additions as the transfer window rumbles on. There are still two weeks left until the window closes, and midfield is one area of the pitch that has been discussed in certain quarters as needing reinforcements.

One of the players who has been linked with a move to Liverpool is Ismael Bennacer. The AC Milan midfielder has been credited as a possible target for Jurgen Klopp’s side this summer.

According to a fresh report from Italian news outlet Calciomercato, via Football Italia , talks over a new contract for the Algerian international has stalled in recent days. Bennacer’s current deal is set to expire in 2024, and Milan are thought to be keen on handing the player an extension.

However, the report states that there has been no progress on talks to extend the 24-year-old’s deal at the San Siro. It has also been stated that the two parties will meet after the transfer window closes to figure out a solution.

The report also states that Bennacer is looking for a significant increase on his salary in order to sign a new deal. It is thought that the midfielder, who currently is said to earn £1.44million per year is looking for double that, with Milan’s current offer apparently worth £2.54m per year.
