Liverpool could face Helsinki trip after first Premier League game next season

As Liverpool continue to chase an unprecedented quadruple this year, any success could open the door to further silverware next season.

The Reds have already clinched a domestic cup double and, courtesy of beating Chelsea in Saturday's FA Cup final, already know they will take on Man City in next season's Community Shield at the end of July. The 2022/23 Premier League season starts the following week on August 6, but Jurgen Klopp 's side could face a European trip just days after their league opener.

The 2022 European Super Cup final is scheduled to take place on August 10 at the Olympic Stadium in Helsinki, with the match being the first UEFA club competition final to ever be held in Finland. Kicking off at 8pm, Bundesliga side Eintracht Frankfurt booked their place in the final after beating Rangers in the Europa League final on Wednesday night.

Liverpool take on Real Madrid in the Champions League final in Paris on May 28, with the winners of the game then qualifying for the European Super Cup final. So if the Reds get the better of Carlo Ancelotti's side later this month, they will travel to Finland to take on Eintracht Frankfurt after their opening game of the Premier League season.

As a result, if Klopp's men are successful in Paris, their league season is likely to start on Friday 5 August or Saturday 6 August, with the provisional Premier League fixtured list scheduled to be released on Thursday 16 June.

Liverpool have won the European Super Cup on four previous occasions, with their most recent victory coming against Chelsea on penalties in Istanbul in 2019. Meanwhile, their last competitive fixture in Finland saw them beat FC Haka 5-0 in a Champions League qualifier in August 2001, while they also played at the Helsinki Olympic Stadium in August 2015 when they ran out 2-0 winners in a friendly against HJK thanks to goals from Divock Origi and Philippe Coutinho.
