Nottingham Forest signing Union Berlin centre-forward Taiwo Awoniyi would result in fellow Premier League side Liverpool profiting from a cash windfall.
The 24-year-old only left Anfield permanently under a year ago after previously spending seven separate loan spells away from the club after initially failing to be granted a work permit to play in the Premier League. The last of those temporary transfers saw the striker return to Germany in 2020, having previously been on loan at Bundesliga side Mainz, with Union Berlin.
Awoniyi scored five goals in 22 appearances, which impressed Union enough to make the move permanent after agreeing a £6.5million fee with Liverpool. Since that switch, the Nigeria international scored another 20 goals this season, which has caught the eye of Forest.

When arriving in the German capital, a release clause of €20 million was apparently agreed. That roughly £17.5 million fee is what the Reds are reportedly paying as they seek to sign the striker.
Should that fee be formalised, then Liverpool are understood to be making almost £2million from the move. That is due to the presence of a 10% sell-on fee which, according to our colleagues at the Liverpool Echo, was negotiated last summer.
