Lily Allen reveals she's been diagnosed with ADHD which she says 'runs in her family'

Lily Allen has revealed she has been diagnosed with adult ADHD.

The singer, 37, was diagnosed with the condition after going to "see someone" who suggested she might have the behavioural condition.

According to the NHS, ADHD is "a condition that affects people's behaviour. People with ADHD can seem restless, may have trouble concentrating and may act on impulse."

The Smile songstress opened up about her diagnosis, which took place after she went to go and see someone following her move to the US.

Lily moved across the pond after she began dating Stranger Things actor David Harbour. The pair tied the knot in a Las Vegas wedding in September 2020.

Now, Lily has revealed her recent diagnosed and explained how the condition runs in her family.

She told The Times: "I’ve actually just been diagnosed with adult ADHD. I’ve had to completely switch off social media because as soon as I look at it, it can be hours of my day gone.

"It sort of runs in my family. And it’s only because I’m here in America where they take these things slightly more seriously than they do in England.

"I went to see someone and they said, 'Have you ever thought about this?' And I said, 'Well, yes I have'."

The singer recently turned her hand to acting and made her theatre debut in 2021 as she took part in 222: A Ghost Story and is now set to made her TV debut in comedy drama Dreamland.

Lily revealed how she is enjoying her new venture as she said: "It is really disciplined, and it’s a completely new thing for me. I think it’s a combination of age and being able to take responsibility and genuinely being fascinated and grateful for these opportunities, which I know so many people have been working towards their entire adult lives.

"And also I’ve been sober for nearly four years. And it’s my job now."

It comes after Lily appeared on This Morning and discussed being four years sober in the interview.

She has been open about her addiction struggles and last consumed alcohol at the end of July 2019.

Looking at her life before and after sobriety, Lily told the show: "It is weird. My life has changed so much.

"I'm four years clean and sober, I have a new husband, and we're sorting our lives out in America."

Lily previously opened up about her past struggles with booze and drugs in her memoir, My Thoughts Exactly.

She said: "Someone gave me a line of what I assumed to be cocaine at the Glamour awards once, but it turned out to be Ketamine.

"I was thrown out (passed over some railings) of the Glamour awards for being in a k hole.

She said she considered taking heroin at the lowest point of her struggle with addictions, admitting: "I knew when that thought popped into my head it was time to confront my demons."
