Liam Payne v Tommy Fury truth revealed after boxing match Twitter 'hoax' startles fans

Liam Payne will NOT take on Tommy Fury in a boxing match, after a poster that did the rounds online left fans convinced they were heading into the ring to do battle.

On Wednesday night, former One Direction star Strip That Down singer Liam sent Twitter into overdrive, when he posted a flyer featuring a photo of himself and Love Island finalist and boxer Tommy going head-to-head, with the words 'Liam Payne v Tommy Fury...announcement tomorrow'

Posting the teaser on his Twitter, Liam offered no further explanation other than the glaring eyes emoji and the comments thread of the tweet was quickly filled with responses of people both shocked but convinced that the two were going to fight each other this summer.

Using puns on One Direction and the group's hits, one id his followers responded: "Am thinking sadly you’re going in One Direction here. Down. But if anyone’s got a chance. It’s Gotta be You," with a second writing: "OMG IT’S HAPPENING"

Among the many other tweets was third, which read: "I don’t think this was in my bingo card but okay." However, after all the hype, the reality of Liam potentially taking on Tommy in the ring is actually very different.

While the two stars will be going into battle at Old Trafford this summer; it won't be to fight, but to both play in opposing teams for Soccer Aid 2023. Revealing all on Thursday night after sending Twitter into meltdown just hours earlier,. Liam shared the same poster of him and Tommy, only this time with the Soccer Aid details on and wrote: "Supporting the amazing @UNICEF_uk"

Soccer Aid for UNICEF 2023 takes place on Sunday, June 11 at Manchester United's Old Trafford. A family of four can attend the game for just £60 – buy your tickets at socceraid.org.uk/tickets.
