Getting relegated is a mournful day for any club but Leeds United fans have been left especially dismayed by just how little fight they have seen from their club over the final few weeks of the Premier League season while others around them successfully pulled clear.
The Whites were 13th in the table after what proved to be their final win of the season – a 2-1 victory over Nottingham Forest all the way back on April 4 – with Wolves, West Ham, Everton, Forest, and Bournemouth all beneath them in the table
But while all those sides bar Everton did enough to go into the final day with nothing on the line, Leeds United picked up just two points from their final nine games of the season, capped off with a final-day 4-1 defeat to Tottenham Hotspur that confirmed they have now been consigned to the Championship for the season ahead.

That latest insipid performance began with Harry Kane putting Spurs ahead less than two minutes into the game, and the Elland Road faithful felt that summed up their side’s complete inability to offer any indication they were capable of arresting their decline. Here’s a selection of the comments they made on Twitter:
James Cousins: Bournemouth and Forest both showed fight and fully deserve staying up. Leeds have shown absolutely NOTHING for months.
Lisa Earnshaw: Starting a ‘must win’ by fielding a highly defensive team with a ‘must not concede’ mentality, then conceding after 2 minutes, then continuing with said team into the second half shows we decided our fate early doors…
James Barnet: We have been a total disgrace, look at lowly Bournemouth how they survived. We should hold our heads in shame. If we were going down we should have gone down with Marsch who saved us last year. Might be another 16 years again.
Darren Lufc: All the errors, this is why we are going down and rightfully so
George Geobey: Can't say anything other than we deserve to go down. The owners have been shocking. Too much American influence that hasn't improved the squad. Hopefully a big reset in the Championship and go from there. Hello Championship our old friend. #lufc #gotwhatwedeserve
Healy: I’m sorry for this Bielsa. We ruined what you created. Forever grateful for all you have done.
Chris: Leicester and Everton both showing fight on the final day. Leeds United…cool story bro.
Mark Kelly: We came back into the Premier League with a bang and we’re now leaving with a whimper
Harry Merrell: Oh well. Championship football it is. Kept Marsh for too long. Gracia was never the man for the job. Big Sam, nothing against him came in with nothing to lose. Embarrassing.
Daniel Winter: Me using Mario Kart difficulty settings as a way to explain to my 6 year old why we'll win more games next year…
