Leeds United news as Whites prospect hails 'incredible' World Cup experience

Here are the latest evening Leeds United headlines on Saturday, June 3.

Mateo Joseph hails World Cup experience

Leeds United prospect Mateo Joseph says his England U20s World Cup experience was 'incredible' as he backed his teammates to 'ahcieve great things' in the future.

Joseph, who has been key part of Leeds United's U21s promotion to Premier League 2 Division 1 this season, made three appearance for England's U20s side and was named as a starter for the last-16 defeat to Italy.

Posting on Instagram, Joseph wrote: "Our journey to the World Cup has ended, it has been difficult saying goodbye to it but the experience has been incredible to be able to participate in such an event.

"We’ve shared unforgettable moments and although we would have liked to have gone further in the competition it was an honor to represent my country and compete with such a great group of players and staff. I am so grateful for the opportunity and for the help I received, I have no doubt that this generation will go on to achieve great things."

The 19-year-old will no doubt be hoping to draw on these experience next season as he looks to establish himself in Leeds United's first-team and play a part in their attempt to climb out of the Championship at the first time of asking.

Gaetano Berardi leaves the door open to emotional Leeds United return

Gaetano Berardi has left the door open for a return to Leeds United in a coaching capacity - one day. The Whites are currently searching for a new boss following Sam Allardyce's departure after his four-game rescue mission ended in failure as the club slipped out of the Premier League and back into the Championship.

It is too early for Elland Road hero Berardi to throw his hat into the ring, with the 34-year-old Swiss defender planning to take his coaching badges in Italy after announcing his retirement from playing this week. But Berardi would be interested in a return to Leeds one day, after becoming a fan favourite in his seven-year spell in Yorkshire during which he helped Marcelo Bielsa's side win promotion to the Premier League and then finish ninth in their first top flight campaign in more than a decade and a half.

Asked whether there is a possibility of a return in the long-term, Berardi told BBC Radio Leeds : "I will start in Italy with the coaching badges and then I will see. "I am not sure what I will find but I don't want to talk about my future.

Bridges tells Leeds United to sort ownership situation

Leeds United need to resolve their ownership situation as the 'priority' before re-examining the club's DNA when it comes to appointing Sam Allardyce's successor. That is the view of former Whites striker Michael Bridges, who is confident there is a manager out there who can replicate Vincent Kompany's impact at Burnley and guide United back to the Premier League at the first attempt.

Allardyce's departure from Elland Road following a four-game stint in the dugout was confirmed on Friday, with just one point picked up in the run-in. Carlos Corberan, Steven Gerrard, and Scott Parker are among the frontrunners for the vacancy according to the bookmakers.

Kompany inherited a similar scenario at Turf Moor last summer, but led Burnley to the Championship title with a hugely impressive return of 101 points. Bridges believes the 'calibre' of Leeds' playing squad means the next manager could achieve a similar feat in the new season, but fears any talk over Allardyce's replacement is pointless until the club's ownership saga is finally resolved.
