Beckford makes Jesse Marsch 'work ethic' claim
Jesse Marsch took over as Leeds United manager at the end of February after a run of just one point in six games saw Marcelo Bielsa sacked, despite his legendary status at the club. Jermaine Beckford has claimed that a similarity in 'work ethic' between Marsch and Bielsa is why the American will be successful at Elland Road.
"The philosophy of Jesse Marsch is very similar to Marcelo Bielsa. The work ethic is very similar as well," Beckford told Premier League Productions, as reported by HITC.
The former Leeds striker admitted that Marsch had to and will continue to make changes, such as to 'fix the defence,' but noted that it was important that the Whites did not completely depart from what made them strong under Bielsa, 'making sure everything aligns well.'
Leeds United confirm Australian tour
It was confirmed on Wednesday, April 27, that Leeds will tour Australia ahead of the 22/23 season. Their Premier League status is currently uncertain, with the relegation battle tight but they have games confirmed against two teams they hope to be in the same division as for the season ahead, in Crystal Palace and Aston Villa.
They will travel down under in July and also have a fixture against A-League side Brisbane Roar. For more information about the fixture dates, read more here.
Matt Grimes opens up on Leeds United struggles
During the 2016/17 season, Matt Grimes joined Leeds on a season-long loan, joining up with former Swansea City manager Garry Monk. The Leeds manager knew Grimes, which should have been a positive for the midfielder but the season became a disaster for the Swansea loanee.
Grimes made only seven Championship appearances for the Whites, with the games he did play being poor performances from the then 21-year-old. He has opened up on that period of his career, stating how it impacted his mental health:
"I was just in a lull of training and not playing, running on the weekends and it impacted my mental health so much. I was stepping on the pitch, not feeling confident at all and I was thinking should I even be here?"
Following the failure of his loan at Leeds, Grimes went on loan to Northampton Town in League One and rebuilt his confidence, playing 44 times. He subsequently established himself in the Championship with Swansea and has gone on to become their Captain.
