Lazio star Ciro Immobile resists Celtic dig after Italian TV criticism

Lazio star Ciro Immobile swerved the opportunity to take a dig at Celtic after his side's 2-0 victory at the Estadio Olimpico.

The Itay international came off the bench to net two late goals which ended Brendan Rodgers' men's European campaign.

And at full time the 33-year-old was asked what it was like to play against a team "with little quality on the night" and "with little left to play for" as the interviewer fired several pot shots at the Parkhead side.

But Immobile refused to twist the knife in further. Speaking to Sky Italia, he said: "We knew it was a balanced and tough group. They are all teams used to playing this competition, for us it was only the second time in recent years.

"It will be tough until the end. We started well because the first points gave us good morale."

Meanwhile, Chris Sutton has reacted to Celtic's loss to Lazio insisting the defeat was "predictably disappointing".

The Englishman was disappointed with the display of his former side, but he insists it was no shock given the performances in the competition already this season.

He wrote on Twitter: "A predictably disappointing night… can’t get away from it that as Champions League groups go this was a gentle one and one point from five games in this group is not good enough.

"The team tonight really lacked physicality as well as real belief against a bang average Lazio."
