Laura Whitmore has broken her silence as Maya Jama is announced as the new host of Love Island. The former presenter of the hit ITV2 dating show reacted to the news as it was confirmed today (October 12) on the official Love Island Instagram page.
It comes after the 37-year-old revealed she would be leaving her role as host back in August, admitting that the gig was "very difficult". Fans of the hit reality TV programme were over the moon as show bosses uploaded a video clip to the social media platform earlier announcing the ex radio DJ's new job role, as reported by the Mirror.
The clip starts off with a close up of someone scrolling through their phone, looking at articles about who the new Love Island host could be while the signature theme tune plays in the background. As the camera zooms out, Maya Jama is revealed to be the one scrolling through the phone.
After taking a sip from her Love Island branded water bottle, she sits on a sofa, beaming ear to ear as a Love Island suitcase with the name 'Maya' can be seen next to her. "Okay, the rumours are true. Say hey to your brand-new #LoveIsland host @mayajama", the caption reads.
Laura reacted to the announcement herself, being among the first to comment on the post. She wrote: "Yes girl!! So delighted for you! You’re gonna be fab", followed by a red heart emoji.
Many others, including celebrity fans, were quick to react to the news with excitement. Tasha Ghouri, one of the runners-up of the 2022 series, posted a slew of clapping emojis.
@Summerbotwe's added: "Yessirrrr," with a heart eye emoji. @Bobbycnorris put: "YAAAS!!" @Joannachimonides said: Amazing !!!!" @Biggschrisx typed: "Gassed!!"
