Lanarkshire pupils aiming to help those less fortunate this Christmas

Pupils, staff and parent group members of a Wishaw school are coming together to help those less fortunate at Christmas.

Over the past two years Clyde Valley High School have been providing Christmas boxes in conjunction with South Wishaw Parish Church and the Wishaw Community Foodbank.

The school is holding the same initiative this time around with the school’s parent also asking for local businesses to get involved.

Michelle Williams, from the parent group, told Lanarkshire Live : “We have provided boxes for 38 and then 67 young people over the past two years.

“The boxes usually have pyjamas, a game, toiletries, selection boxes, a supermarket shopping voucher and food hamper for the families in conjunction with the church and foodbank.

“If you add everything together it’s roughly £25 for each box.

“We would like to appeal local businesses to come forward and sponsor boxes to help us out.

“Given the cost-of-living crisis it’s inevitable there will be more needed this year.”

The school is also holding an event to support this year’s campaign

Soundsational Community Choir are performing in South Wishaw Parish Church on Monday, November 28, supported by pupils who will be performing a short set.

The school has continued to help Clyde Valley pupils by introducing the Little Shop of Happiness which stocks a whole host of items.

Michelle added: “It was the idea of two pupils and started as a uniform recycling bank.

“However, it has went to strength to strength and pupils can take various items of clothing, toiletries and trainers.

“The pupils and teachers, led by Lisa Thomson, have done a fantastic job with it and as a parent group we do our best to support it.”

Tickets for the Soundational Community Choir event at South Wishaw Parish Church cost £5 and are available by contacting the school.
