Lanark swimmers secure magnificent seven medal haul at Tollcross

Lanark Amateur Swimming Club star Evi Mackie won four titles as her club took seven medals from the West District Short Course Championships at Tollcross in Glasgow.

Mackie, 13, won the 200m butterfly, 100m backstroke, 200m breaststroke and 200m individual medley.

Craig Shaw, 14, won silver medals in two events, the 100m breaststroke and 100m individual medley.

Millie McArthur was second in the 16-year-old 50m freestyle in a new club record time of 28.14.

Benji Jones went under the ‘magic minute’ for 100m freestyle for the first time, posting a personal best time of 59.03 seconds.

Personal best marks were also set by Orlaith Jeffrey, Lucy Taylor, Abbie Barnstaple, Ross Carswell, Caitlyn Hamilton, Cameron Bruce and Euan McLeod.

After the meet, coach Karen Kelly said: “Well done to the Lanark swimmers. It was Evi’s first short course competition for a few months and four wins from as many swims was excellent.

“Craig and Millie had good solid swims in their silver medal swims.

“Benji is one of our most committed swimmers in training and thoroughly deserved to break the minute mark.

“We now have a heavy programme of competitions in November.”
