A Texas judge has overturned a state-issued permit for the proposed Lake Ringgold reservoir, handing a significant victory to ranchers and conservation groups that have spent years challenging the project. The ruling, delivered by Travis County District Judge Maya Guerra Gamble on October 8, 2026, puts a major obstacle in the path of a reservoir intended to strengthen water supplies for Wichita Falls and the surrounding region. According to reporting by KAUZ News Channel 6 and statements from the Texas & Southwestern Cattle Raisers Association and Texas Conservation Alliance, the proposed project in Clay County could inundate more than 16,000 acres of agricultural land and wildlife habitat. The City of Wichita Falls, however, has indicated that it remains committed to the reservoir and has the option to appeal the decision.
