Kyogo Furuhashi was the scourge of Rangers for a third time – and now he insists he’s targeting a domestic Treble.
The Japanese striker bagged a double in the Hoops’ 3-2 Old Firm win at Parkhead, which all but seals the Premiership title. Kyogo has now scored five goals in three matches against Rangers. He decided the outcome of the League Cup Final at Hampden in February with a brace to secure a 2-1 win. And before that, his late equaliser at Ibrox denied Gers three points in the last derby.
Kyogo is now on 28 goals for the season but says he wants MORE before the end of the campaign. And if he delivers again in the Scottish Cup semi-final against Michael Beale ’s side on April 30, he could help lead Celtic boss Ange Postecoglou’s side to the Treble. Kyogo said: “It was a terrific game and, as a team, we were united with the supporters. That’s why we could win.
“Everyone is supporting me and that’s why I can score. I really enjoy that. In every game, we play to see the smiles on the fans’ faces. Personally, I try hard to make sure this happens.
“I feel they’re supporting me from the heart so I want to give something back. I have always felt that love from the fans here.
“I’m not thinking ahead but in every game I’m doing my best to keep scoring. Hopefully I will reach the big numbers now.
“There are still games left to play and you never know what is going to happen. It’s important to stay focused and we will maybe have the Treble.”
Celtic defender Alistair Johnston was full of praise for Kyogo’s performance. The full-back said: “These are the kind of games you live for. The ones where the fans want you to get stuck in, your gaffer wants you to get stuck in, your teammates want to see you getting stuck in – it’s the kind of stuff I thrive on.
“And then also there’s moments where you need to show that you have quality too and I think I can show that as well. So when you play with a guy like Jota on the wing and Kyogo up front, it makes my life a lot easier.
“Or when Cam (Carter-Vickers) is covering my shoulder at all times and I’ve always got Cal (McGregor) inside it makes my life really easy. They make me look a lot better player than I am.
“So I’m just really lucky and fortunate to be a part of this system. It was an enjoyable game but we didn’t make it easy on ourselves. No one will be forgetting it anytime soon.”
