Kolkata traffic Police plan to streamline traffic, passenger flow

KOLKATA: Even as Metro Rail prepares for the Sealdah inaugural run of East West Metro at the end of this month, Kolkata Traffic Police is chalking out multiple plans to ensure there is not much crowding in the complex, which will see commuters from both the Metro and the railway stations taking the same path. It has also drafted a traffic proposal for Eastern Railway to bring about long-term improvement of congestion at Sealdah.

“The traffic flow of the area will change once the Metro station is operational. We have decided to ask Metro authorities to hand over the land, which is barricaded at present for construction work. Once we get the land, we will push the app-cab stand closer to the railway station’s south section. We will also increase the bay area of the pre-paid taxi stand. The auto stand, too, will be shifted to a better location to make more space for vehicles entering and exiting Sealdah. The private car stand will be segregated from that of commercial vehicles. We are also trying to curve out space so that Metro passengers can leave their cars there,” said an officer.
