KNIGHTS utility Phoenix Crossland will be eyeing an international debut during the Pacific Championships after being named in the Kiwis squad.
The 24-year-old, born in Wellington, was one of eight debutants listed by New Zealand on Tuesday.
Crossland has played 84 NRL games for Newcastle, enjoying full campaigns across 2023 and 2024.
He's largely lined up at hooker during that period, but has also been utilised in the halves and off the bench.
Dummy-half duo Brandon Smith and Jeremy Marshall-King are both out injured.
"While we've had a number of players ruled out through injury or unavailability, it's a hugely exciting opportunity having the Kiwis playing at home in front of our fans again," new Kiwis coach Stacey Jones told NRL media.
"We've still got a solid core of last year's squad but, the way I see it, it's a fantastic chance for us to build the group to provide lots of options and depth for following campaigns."
Crossland joins Knights prop and international incumbent Leo Thompson in the squad.
The Kiwis host Australia, including Knights centre Bradman Best, in Christchurch on October 27.
From the NRLW ranks, Knights trio Abigail Roache, Shanice Parker and Laishon Albert Jones have all been selected for New Zealand.
