A Kiltwalk hero from Bonhill who took on the 23 mile challenge in memory of her late mum has won her dream car from Arnold Clark
Iona Laird, 26, won £30,000 from the car retailer to go towards a new set of wheels.
The firm was a headline event sponsor of this year’s Kiltwalk, which saw thousands of fundraisers walk from Glasgow to the Bonnie Banks in Balloch.
The prize was revealed to Iona through a secret stunt performed by her family. Her sister, Kirsty, took Iona to Arnold Clark’s Clydebank branch to look at a car that her brother-in-law was thinking of buying.
What was waiting for Iona, however, was the rest of her family along with two singers.
When she walked into the dealership the two singers performed, I’m Gonna Be by The Proclaimers and her family revealed that she had won the prize of £30,000 to spend on an Arnold Clark car of her choice.
Iona took on the Glasgow Kiltwalk on the 23-mile on April 30. She took part in the Kiltwalk in aid of Macmillan Cancer Support after the organisation looked after her mum before she sadly passed away.
Arnold Clark chief executive and group managing director Eddie Hawthorne, said: “It means the world to everyone at Arnold Clark to support Scotland’s communities and do our bit to help others through the Kiltwalk.
“This is the first year we’ve surprised a lucky Kiltwalker with £30,000 for a dream car – and the look on Iona’s face was worth the wait. We look forward to surprising another lucky kiltwalker later in the year.”
Kiltwalk CEO, Paul Cooney, said: “Iona’s hard work walking 23 miles in the rain has paid off in a way that she could never have imagined.
“Thank you to our headline sponsor, the wonderful Arnold Clark, for the most generous surprise.”
